One Widget strategy: tying valuable free data to you

Over at Kevin Kelly’s Cool Tool site is a posting he has on Tide Widgets in which he talks about some cool apps to deliver tidal information. It’s a great post. Being from the east coast, I know many people near the sea are interested in such information, and when it comes to tidal information, will check it often many times a day.
You, on the other hand, want to communicate with people about your products, services and brand, but people may check on your web site or your RSS feeds occasionally if at all.
The answer is obvious: tie the information you want to provide with valuable free information your clients want to see. Widgets are perfect for this. They are not difficult to create, and as Aaron Kim has often pointed out, they can help build an association with you that can be very positive (not to mention very frequent).
If you think about it, there is likely all sorts of information related to your business that people would be interested in hearing about on a regular basis. You can provide this and information about yourself via such a widget. Which could be the start of a beautiful friendship with you and your new clients.
