Why MOBB United?

BIPOC representation is a challenge across industries, book publishing being no different.  More on that in my blog (“Diversity in Children’s Books”).  Recognizing my opportunity to craft my own stories, I decided my books will feature BIPOC characters like my own children.  Where possible, I’ll donate to non-profits that align with those books.

This particular book is about a young Black / AfroLatino boy and his mother.  It’s a perfect fit to support Mothers of Black Boys.  Below is a snippet from their website to understand their mission:

MOBB United aims to provide information and support for moms of Black sons while promoting positive images of Black boys and men.

What we share is unconditional love for our Black sons, and we want others to see them through our proud eyes.

For more information, visit their website: mobbunited.org.

I will donate a portion of profits from each book sold.

Why the Y?

I'm a proud Board member of the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas.  Many of us out there in the world grew up with a Y story, as I did, but I'm learning more and more about their mission and vast offerings, like Safety Around Water or childcare in various community sites (as opposed to YMCA branches).  It wasn't lost on me that many of the things the boy loves to do in my book are actually things you can do through the Y - science experiments, basketball, karate, and even overnight camp!  It only makes sense that I'd also use my platform and book launch to support this mission.

I will donate a portion of profits from each book sold.
